Google files patent to project controls onto surfaces with Glass

google-laser-patentGoogle has filed a patent to allowing Google Glass to project controls onto surfaces such as, in the patent image above, your arm.  If this is the way that technology will be heading over the next few years, then we are in for some exciting times.

Essentially, the Google patent filing shows technology is in the works that would use a tiny laser projector mounted on the arm of the glasses to beam out QWERTY (keyboard) and other buttons.  The camera integrated into Glass would then pick up what you press or type, and feed that back into your devices, whether directly back to Google Glass or a linked smartphone.

Google has previously said that it is struggling to find new and innovative ways for users to interact with the upcoming Google Glass, and that they have been experimenting.  What makes this patent filing interesting, is that it gives a glimpse into their progress and perhaps the direction they are heading with it all.

Personally, we cannot wait to get our hands on Google Glass, and hope that this particular feature makes it in time for launch.  Just when that is we cannot say, but we have some suspicions that it won’t be too long.
