Pcmag.com have published the results of their latest annual survey where they ask their readers opinions of various products. Their survey makes for some interesting and somewhat unexpected reading.
Whilst Google’s Android and Applies iOS make up for almost 90% of all smartphone sales it is proving quite difficult for Microsoft to break into the market. If you believe the results of the survey by Pcmag, then people clearly like Windows Phone 8 better. Having a Windows 8 phone is quite a niche thing at the moment, and somewhat new. We think as a result Windows Phone 8 owners are bound to have a higher opinion of it. However, this shouldn’t detract from what must be very pleasant reading for Microsoft.
So let us just mentioned how these ratings are done. The satisfaction levels are measured on a scaled from 0 to 10, with 10 being the best. Microsoft’s OS received a score of 9.0 with a “likelihood to recommend” rating of 9.2.
One particular interesting thing about the survey was that they were asked to state their reasons for selecting a Mobile phone, and a massive 88% of Windows Phone 8 users stated that they chose it particularly because of its operating system. Of course, Microsoft hasn’t got it all right, and they fall far behind on the Apps department, but it would seem that most Windows 8 Phone users recognize this and that apps are not much of a factor when they purchase. It is clear Microsoft has a niche market here to build on, and this is probably what spurs it on. Whether it is ultimately successful against the behemoth that is Android only time will tell.
