Today seems to be a good day for rumors, especially from a source connected with DigiTimes. According to an unnamed source they are reporting that MacBook shipments may only see single digit growth in 2013 as component suppliers have not seen any major increase in orders. However, Digitimes reported their source saying:
This snippet of information has revealed that new MacBook Products (note the plural) will be released by the end of the second quarter. It will be interesting to see how Apple manages its release of product this year as we have already reported today about rumors of the iPad being delayed until later on in the year. We suspect they will hold back to release all the products at the same time, but of course we are just speculating at this point.
One of the major problems causing sluggish sales of the MacBook are the high prices associated with them. Whilst many people want to buy them, and indeed have a strong attraction to owning a MacBook but the increasing number of low priced (but good quality, such as the Chromebook) laptops on the market must make people think twice. Despite this, Apple still have strong sales (even if their growth prospects have been reduced). They sold 13.03 million MacBooks in 2012, up nearly 8 percent on the year.
